It’s been over 40 years. He’s been unmasked several times, and always found a way to trick people into thinking he wasn’t Spider-Man. This time, he went on national television and took the mask of himself. There’s just no taking that back now.
I’m pretty sure this little move has been in the works since he joined the Avengers. Mostly because at that point almost all the heroes knew who he was already, and a good portion of the villains knew were figuring it out as well. I mean, he’s a high school science teacher who lives in the Avengers tower, people are going to start picking up on this eventually, right?
So, on the one hand, I suppose this gives him the freedom to brush people off so he can go catch Venom or whoever. On the other hand, this means that all his enemies know who he is, where he lives, who his wife is, etc. That puts them in danger.
At the same time, it can also let us explore the effect this revelation has on the people around him, like his boss, J. Jonah Jameson, who as it turns out has been paying him for self-portraits all these years. What about his friends? Some of them would probably feel somewhat betrayed that he never trusted them with his secret.
Either way they choose to go with this should be interesting to say the least, just as long as they don’t screw up somehow…..*cough*CloneSaga*cough*
